A24 sickle bar mower installation ?

Still waiting for my swather from "name unmentionable" :-) but I'm ready to mount the mower to the Super A. It's been a long time (15 years) since I've done it. I remember it was quite a chore to get it mounted. BUT... I remember reading a post on this forum a while back, that there was some kind of mounting tool or lever that made it a little easier. Any info on the tool and or brackets (or whatever it/they are) you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with any tool.

It should have "kick stands" on it to raise it up high enough to just back onto it.

but if yours is like mine and they're long gone - just put it up on some wood blocks.

should be able to get close enough to slide/maneuver it into place.

It's still not easy - but I don't think it gets any easier.

Kick Stands, thats what it was that I read. I sure would like to see a set. As you say, mine are long gone too. I have an engine stand I'm going to try to use. But I sure would like to see what the kick stands look like. I might be able to fabricate them myself. (hint hint)

Please post a pic of the mower. It sounds like one we had in the 60's. The left rear wheel had to be reversed to get clearance for the hydraulic lift rod. It was a GREAT mower but a real pain to mount. In hind sight, it should have been suspended from a tree and it would have mounted right up. It was the BEST in the field. JD

Here are a few pics for you. I don't have to reverse the LR wheel but I do have to take off the chains. :-)
It actually went on fairly good. The engine hoist was a bust :-( So I used the hydraulic arms to lift the whole unit with a chain, leveled it out with a floor jack and pulled it into place with a come-a-long hooked to the front axle. I don't think it will be to bad the next time now that I have the Procedure down.
The next to last pic is that new Swather I just purchased after-market. It fit great! Almost like it was made for it.

The mounting is definitely like the one we had. I see yours has been jury rigged to raise with the rear lift. The factory one should have done that. Ours worked off the front left lift arm with a rod inside the left rear tire. What a pain to turn the tire from cultivator width. Looks like your wheel is out, so the original lift set-up would not have been a problem. I was just a kid and remember dropping into a ditch and the mower frame landing solid and raising the rear wheels off the ground and having to get a pull out. The mower cut better than big IH, Alis or JD. Good luck with it. JD

This one works from the left lift arm also. The chain you see is just hanging there, leftover and not removed after using it to drag logs for firewood before I put the mower on.
