About McMaster-Carr tools

Wondering what they're selling and what experience you may have had.

A while back, I ordered three ratchet spinners. Not hand ratchets, just the large diameter spinners with the knurled edges, that fit between your ratchet and the socket. The 1/2" drive they sent was a Williams (SnapOn's other line) with a stippled chrome finish (which is already showing some rust where the chrome has flaked away, despite little use), the 3/8" was a nicely chromed and polished Proto with a few pits in the finish, and the 1/4" was a matte chrome finish SnapOn.

Today I get the three 1/2" drive drag link bits. Two are Armstrongs and the third is a Proto. Poliched, all, but not so fine.

Are they selling seconds or remainders? Doesn't seem right for the price they get.

I've never bought tools from them, but I've been buying lots of other stuff from them for many years.I've never had a problem with anything that came from them. They ARE pricey, but it is one stop shopping.......they have EVERYTHING.I'd call them with my complaints.Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I hear ya, Pete. I've bought from them for years, everything under the sun, and been a happy customer. And I still am.

I've just been surprised at finding that the goods were brands I didn't think you could buy outside the manufacturer's usual chain (as in SnapOn), and wondering if they're seconds.

I'm in Maine now, but for four years I lived in the next town north (eight minutes away) from McM-Carr's will-call window outside Cleveland. Lemme tell ya, a fella could come close to financial ruin livin' in that proximity. Want four 14' lengths of 3/8" transport chain with hooks? Call befoe noon, they'll be ready by three. Need an anvil? Oops, don't have it here, but we can have it i from Chicago tomorrow afternoon.

My concerns aren't anything that'd cause me to take my business elsewhere. If my tools are getting rusty, I'm not using them enough is one way to look at it.

Oh man.I couldn't imagine living so close to a place like that.I would have been in divorce court long before now.Wifey always thought I had some kind of strange addiction to stuff that came from places like Mcmaster,MSC,Graingers,Tractor Supply, etc.Love those stores........I'm like a kid in a candy shop..........a 55 yr. old kid, that is.......
