Going to look at an ac hd5g, seems to run drive work properly , are these decent machines, paint seems good, claimed decent under carriage , what do I need to look for etc. have videos of it running steering and loader working, it's a lil over 4200$ wadda think I know nothing abt these machines, 2cyl Detroit from what I read, also in pics seems to be missing rear counter weight any info helps but I'm headed there sat morn so sooner the better lol thanks Dusty

those are pretty good motors. under carriage is the biggest thing. just depends on how it was maintained. if the fellow has had it for along time then it might be okay. if it was bought to resell I would run away. price seems a little hi but location does matter. the soil you will be operating in will make a big difference. really doesn't have a lot of digging power in clay. great for cleaning out fence rows, smoothing your drive way or dirt piles but as said it is limited so it depends on what you want it for. make sure you check for oil leaks especially around the rear sprockets. personally before I would consider buying it I would have the guy pull the rear housing plugs and check the oil level in the rear housings. some parts are hard to find and can be very costly. 4000 dollar machine can be 6000 pretty quick. go on the net and do a search info for that model before you look at it. once you buy it its yours. good luck

FIL bought one years ago and it was really beat. HD5B if I recall, with aftermarket dozer blade. They could have either fixed or oscillating tracks. Ours was oscillating, large leaf spring across the front end. The sprocket shaft was broke between the sprocket and case along with steering clutch frozen and the engine huffing oil droplets out the stack and running on one cylinder. He ended up sinking a small fortune in it and used it a little. Neighbor bought it after he passed on. He did a pretty nice restore on it but ended up buying two more for parts. I can't say if yours is a good deal or not but be real careful. If you know somebody who knows crawlers have him look at it with you. You can get in real deep.
