When I was 12 now 70 was plowing I was too light in the pooph to use the hand lever. So had to scoot down in the seat and use my foot on the arm. Well my foot sliped off lever came down broke my nose. Left tractor running and ran back to the house. Great times.. Still own the farm........THANKS

the starter rod normally pins onto the starter switch on the starter. It runs horizontal back toward the operator seat. It goes thru and angle bracket under the light switch. There is a "loop" in the rod at that point. You can push with your hand or foot to engage the starter.

i think your talking about a "button". The older Allis tractors do not have a button starter. The photo below shows the electrical switch similar to the Allis. YOu have a 1/4 inch diameter rod about 2 feet long that extends back to the light switch box area, and you push it manually to engage this switch on the starter.

here is a real small photo, but you can see the starter with the switch pointed down, and barely see the rod going back under the battery box to an angle iron bracket... I think later tractors had the starter with switch on top, and the rod went above the battery box and below the light switch.
