I know dumb question, if there is one!

What are the deminsions of an acre of ground in feet X feet?

Friend?? gave it to me in rods, sure helped!!!!

Tring to lay out a piece of ground that my son wants to buy from family. Need to know how to measure out what he wants.

To make this a real N post: I will be using my 4852 Funk 8N to do the brush cutting!

Charles, here ya go.the distance in feet around 1 square acre is 835 feet, that is if the property is exactly square if the sides are not square and of equal length the outside perimiter distance will change.

Like Dell says ,

660 x 330 is 5 acres .

660 x 660 is 10 acres .

660 x 1320 is 20 acres .

1320 x 1320 is 40 acres .

5280 x 1320 is 160 acres .

5280 x 5280 is 640 acres .

Does the number 5280 ring a bell ? Thats one mile .

Back to 40 acres

1320 x 1320 = 1,742,400 square feet , divided by 40 = 43,560.00 square feet per acre .

the square root of 43,560.00 is 208.710

so 208.71 x 208.71 equals 43,560 square feet or one acres .

it is derived from one square mile .

If the family is going to sell the land to another family member, I would strongly suggest that you hire a land surveyor to lay it out and record the survey at the court house. It will save a lot of family feuds in the future. IMHO

They say you can squeeze out 45 acres on an old 40 acre plot because the written boundaries can overlap . Half of what you think you are buying may actually belong to your neighbor .

Sometimes the old section cross fences were built close but could actually be 80' off the true line because thats was the edge of the farmers field . It didn't matter to the farmer cuz he had 160 acres .

Here in Arkansas there have been many "Quiet titles" filed because the owner knew it wasn't his property but he had squatted for 7 + years and legally it was his .

First let me lay out the units:

1 chain = 66 feet
1 furlong = 10 chains = 660 feet
1 acre = 1 furlong long X 1 chain wide = 660 feet X 66 feet = 43,560 square feet.
