Adding an electric fuel pump

I have a Ford 3000 diesel with a CAV fuel pump. I am having trouble bleeding a new pump. Can I add an electric fuel pump before the filter?

You can add one but it's pretty much a waist of time and money for that system.
Have you checked the screen in the fuel shut off that screws into the tank, this is usually the first thing that gives trouble.
Did you install a new fuel filter with the top gasket it the proper position, on some filters if the seal is placed inside the filters lip instead of in the housings grove it'll stop fuel flow.
Those are about the only two things that will cause fuel flow issues on the tractor.
It does need a few gallons of fuel in the tank to get the fuel level above the filter.

(quoted from post at 14:48:36 06/09/20) We did one to a gas engine and one of the carb seals gave out. I found gravity feed worked.

Pre-1965 Ford tractors used gravity feed for gasoline engines and 1965+ gasoline tractors used a mechanical pump up on the front of the engine.

The diesels of both generations had transfer pumps. They were built into the Roosa Master and CAV rotary pumps and were mounted on the outside of the Simms in-line pumps.
