adding Hyd. oil to F700 dump

Hi,

What is the proper way to add Hyd. oil to my 1973 F700 dump. (Body up or down where is the fill plug?)

I"ve not worked on that new of hydraulic, but on the older dump beds we had the fill plug was on the cylinder. When the bed was up, and BE SURE TO SUPPORT THE BED WITH SOMETHING THAT WILL HOLD IT UP SHOULD SOMETHING ELSE FAIL, the plug is on top of the cylinder, and you fill it to overflowing.

has the truck got a hydraulic resevor on the side or the frame? if so with the bed down, fill it to within about 2 inches of the top, if its sluggish to raise, if it has a upright cylinder, get in the bed and raise it a little, on the top of the cylinder there should be a bleeder screw, most of them look like the ones on a brake wheel cylinder, just crack this slightly and let the air out, WHEN YOU DO THIS THE BED WILL LOWER, MAKE SURE NOBODY IS UNDER THERE!!!! if it has a sissors type of lift it shouldnt need to be bled, if you have to raise the bed to get at the hydraulic tank, BLOCK THE BED UP WITH SOMETHING THAT WILL HOLD IT!!,make sure the bed can't move! then remove the cap on the tank and fill about halfway, there isnt a real good way to tell on these as when you lower the bed, all that fluid in the cylinder will go back into the tank, it may overflow a little
