Adding hydraulics to a tractor???

I hate to spend money (who doesn t). Bad as I hate to, I need to add a tractor to the line up. Specifically, I will be tedding and raking. I won t need much horse power, but I will need hydraulics. How hard/expensive is it to add hydraulics to either a 600 or 800 Ford?

Sometimes at swap meets etc. you
can find an old add on system that
runs off the PTO. That wouldn't
take a lot to hook up. PTO pump
might be an option worth checking
into

There are a number of way to do that. One i a control valve that goes in place of the test port cover plate. Or a pump driven from the cranks shaft and a tank and valve body. I once added hyds to a Farmall B by installing a power steering pump off a Chevy pickup and a control valve and it worked for what I need it to

Don't limit yourself to one brand.

Try to find a tractor in the HP range you need that already has basic hydraulics.

Adding features/mods to an old machine typically doesn't come cheap.

You can thank me later.

Check the salvage yards for hydraulic systems from the 650-850 series Fords .
Have to wonder why a Ford N series when there are better tractors on the market . A Massey 35/135/235 makes a Ford N series look like a toy.

That Ford should have the hydrolick on it from the factory because of the 3 point hitch. Now unless you would find the very rare model( made only for drawbar work and only a serious colloctor would want ) would you have to do anything but buy the control valve that bolts under the seat with about 3-4 bolts and take a plate off and bolt the valve on. Then it would just be adding what hoses you need. That valve I think will be avaible new here on YT. And I would guess the remote valve being all you would need on ant of those Fords as it was a factory option. Less than one in a thousand would have been built without the hydrolic system but less than 50% wouldhave had the remote valve from factory as not that mich needed the remote but the 3 point 99.99% of people buying a tractor of that model would not have bought one without the hydrolics.

Do you already have the tractor or still looking?
The hydraulic remote valve for a 600/800 model will also work on 2000 thru 5000 models and their newer replacement models.
Original valves are a bit hard to find and have a good size price tag but there's several aftermarket valves that will work.
Several original and aftermarket valves in eBay for $200-300.

Used my 8N to rake last year with a side delivery. Tractor actually performs too many handy jobs to not have a small tractor around. Upgraded to a Vrake. I will need hydraulics to run it. Thought I might get rid of the 8N, and get a 600 or 800. The few I've seen didn't have hookups. Thought they could be added, but wasn't sure.

Yes they can be added but it can cost $200-1500 to do it all depends on what you can find. Or you can chain the 3 point arms down and work off the test port but that is not really a good way to do it
