additives in ford 8n gas

NO. Some fellas think you need a lead additive for these old FORDs. Truth is NO, lead is NOT needed, standard unleaded gas works just fine, PLUS there is no such
product - lead has been banned for years by the US of A gubment/EPA. There are many snake-oil products sold today and some think their tractor runs super better with it
but nobody can offer scientific data they do anything. All contain about 98% pure Mineral Spirits anyway. Good cleaner solvent and it will thin out your gas but that's
it. The argument over ethanol continues as to the cause of gas boiling. Do your own research.

No additive needed, if it sits a lot use pure gas without ethanol as it seems to not cause any problems. I use cheapo gas from local station and any gas I drain out of anything else in my N. Not exactly a high compression engine but very durable.

(quoted from post at 22:49:50 06/06/23) Givin todays gasoline, is it necessary to use any type of additive in an 8n ? Jim

i've had my N for a dozen or so years now. i have never added anything to the gas. my tractor is unused all winter. each year, it starts up fine with whatever gas was left in the tank the previous fall.

Yep, Sta-Bil, and other snake oils are not needed.

I have not had luck with additives when it comes to keeping the jets clean..

SO.. we simply cut off the fuel valve and let the tractor idle till it dies,, meaning.... that the carb is empty, and the float is in the open position... for when we are ready to use the tractor/welder/pump/lawnmower/weedeater/generator/log splitter/spaceship again. This is very important at end of season, but can be done after every use.. so you dont forget.

We have added fuel cutoff valve to about everything on the ranch, farm and home so life is good now.
