Adjusting 186D shifting speed?

Just now getting acquainted with my "new" 186D.
When using the powershift without the clutch, it seems very jumpy to me.. every time i shift up, it jerks forward almost like popping the clutch from a stop on a standard transmission. Is this considered normal for the powershift?
Is it possible to adjust it to make the shifts a bit smoother/slower?

From the 186d service manual (pg ~455) there is a heading:

4.) Transmission shifts too fast:

-Main relief valve pressure setting too high -------> Adjust main relief valve 220 +/- 7psi

Is this something that can be done externally, and if so, can anyone help me identify where this valve is? The hydraulic schematic on pg 441 shows it (as F), but where on the tractor is this valve, and what does it look like?

(There are also 3 other potential causes, but they appear to require tearing down the system for cleaning.)

Thanks for any pointers..

Yes, powershift transmissions are designed to be very fast shifting. The lining on the powershift clutches is <I><s></s>very <e></e></I>thin and are not designed to slip. Are you shifting with the engine at a low rpm?

Besides the PowerShift lever, there's a three-speed gear range lever, right? If you're getting the head-snap in the fastest range, that's normal; try the lower ranges. And, as Aaron says, at low RPMs.

Otherwise, it's OK to forget the PS and use the clutch pedal.
