adjusting 2 row cultivator

just got a 2 row cultivator and put new sweeps on it and went to garden and only the 2 front row sweeps get into ground and the 3rd row of sweeps are about 4 inches out of ground. is this from the adjustable top link being screwed in too much or do i need to get a longer one to make it adjust right? any information will help out a lot thanks. the cultivator is a 2 row pittsburg and the first row i was talking about is directly behind tires and the sweeps still not in ground are the very back ones.

In the length of tine it took to write this, you could could have lengthened the toplink and found out for yourself. Is there a lenght/depth adjustment on/for each shank?

Red I doubt you knew how to adjust a row crop cultivator on the first time trying to cultivate.

Use your toplink to get the frame of the cultivator level and if the feet are still not engaging level at the same time, you may want to adjust individual tine depth. Ken Sweet

I think on his there is an adjustment, just about like a Dearborn-Ford or Ferguson (Pitsburg I think made the cultivators) with the spring shanks. There is a spacer used to tilt the shovels and most are lost and where i did not have enough I used flat washers stacked to make the tilt.

i adjusted the top link out all the way and adjusted each individual shank and it still isn't going down deep enough in back. I'm stupid but I'm not that stupid for the smart alek people saying stuff on this post. I'm asking questions because i cannot figure the stuff out.

Hey Duramax,

I read your post a couple of times and have some questions that might help us help you.

When you say two row cultivator, do you mean a cultivator for weeding between two crop rows or a field cultivator with two rows of shanks for tillage work??

Are you working the ground the first time or has it been tilled already??

Got a picture so we can see the shovels and shanks??

You may have to buy a longer toplink, ideally, you'll want the cultivator frame flat/parallel to the ground when it's at working depth.

I keep thinking of questions,

WHen the front row of shovels is in the ground, is that the depth you want them to run?? If the first row is 6 inches deep and the back row is sticking out 4 inches, it sounds like you need a longer top link.

If the first row is just scratching a little bit, it may be the angle of the shovels or some other adjustment.

We'll get you going......
