Well, working on the flight deck wasn't for the faint hearted. I came within a hair of going overboard once, ten o'clock on a stormy night with the ship underway.

I still get the willies when I think about it.

When we went to sea we went aboard the Yorktown, then that got decommissioned and we got the Intrepid. they were CVS carriers.---Tee

I was on the JFK CVA67 1977-1980. I spent a lot of time up and on the flight deck due to the fact I worked on the flight deck communication system or as they were called the mouse head sets. The V.A. gave me hearing aids but I do not wear them often due to being around engine noise a lot and I was told not to wear them when are loud noises

By the looks of my hair it was just before I got out--so Intrepid 1971. I had just got back from a flight off of it. I was never a air crewman but they were taking aircraft 224 on a test flight and they knew I wanted to fly off and land on a carrier so I jumped at the chance. Found a flight suit I fit in to and away I went. If you look in my left hand you will see something blue. This is 1/2 of what breaks when they shoot you off the cat. I kind of looks like a dumbbell and is machined to the weight of the plane. Half stays with the cat and half goes with the plane. The plane captain save it for me because he knew it was my first time. I hope I don't get kicked off, but it is called your cherry.

Wifes Dad was on there in 73, I was just wondering if you may have known him. Tom Wright ring any bells?

When?

I was on the Sara in a Marine fighter squadron doing carrier quals in the fall of 1956 when she was brand new and still in shakedown

My hearing isn't the best. I believe I got some damage from being around aircraft in the Navy, don't know for sure. Hearing protection was not thought much of back in the 60's. It's amazing what we were able to do in the service. I got to go on a lot of patrols in our air craft as a crew member in training. It was a real thril to be in a seaplane with Jato assist take off. Talk about loud. Now it's just the same old thing every day. Stan
