Air Breather Question

New to me. I live in S.E Michigan one of my tractors is a 48 8n. Have kept it outside under a canvas tarp for the past 20+ years (sits next to my 52 8n). Always starts until now. Tried to start 15 degree temps, flooded. 1. Pulled out my spare 437 autolite spark plugs. replaced and good blue spark. 2. checked carb, getting gas no filters pluged. 3. checked air filter oil bath cup. it was pluged full of ice right up into the air shaft. ???? Only run this one a few times a month. Use the 52 with front blade to plow the little bit of snow we have had this year. Ever had this happen to you or know why it happened. Checked 52...ok..
change oil twice a year and change oil bath at same time?????

(quoted from post at 15:59:34 01/21/16) that's a lot of water from Sept 2015 until now.It was solid. had to chip it out with a screwdriver. remember, the 52 was ok.
don't suppose it was such that rain or snow could have blown into the air intake?

Do you think you need to pull that breather canister off and check or clean it, it may be saturated with water,
You do not want to suck water into your carb,

How you got water in the oil bath cup, who knows, but at least you found it,

you will have to check the oil bath cup more often

Good luck with it,

A frog has been taking it out at night while you are asleep and driving it around in the pond. :O)

That is very common on all brands of tractors to have water in your air filter. I have two that sit outside. I check them for water often. If we get a heavy rain the 9n will get a lot of water.

To avoid the air filter cup from becoming overfilled with condensation water, you should change the oil once each year.

Seems pretty normal. My tractors have the great blue sky as their shed roof and I learned the hard way (just like you did) that ice in the breather oil cup freezes up solid and prevents the engine from starting.
