I need a little help, again, 49 8n front mount dist. air cleaner with latches on the side for oil cup.
What kind of filter element was supposed to be in there, is the canister supposed to be full of the element, should this element be oiled before instalation. The way it is now I have no way of knowing.
Thanks again for your Help!!!

B.P........you'll haffta work with me on this description. The double round-tube that the cup clippies onto is full of the filter medium, kinda looks like layers of wound-up window screen or chore-boy pot scrubber. The very act of starting yer engine creates a "vacuum" that sucks oil from yer snapple cupple up into the filter medium and coats it with oil that "traps" the dust'n'stuff. When you turn yer engine OFF, gravity pulls the oil and dirt down into the cup where the dirt settles out into the bottom of the cup.

Clean and replace the oil in the cupple using a full-pint (1/2-qt) of regular engine oil. And yes, it overflows into the center hole.

You very seldom haffta remove the filter medium from inside the tube for cleaning. Surprizingly enuff, oil-bath airfilter is more efficent than paper pleated car filters being used today. .......HTH, Dell
