Air cleaner super A

Can the steel mesh inside the air cleaner housing be removed for cleaning on a 1951 super A ?

Not without major intense effort. Were it mine, I would put Kero/diesel in the cup, seal every hole as needed, including the cup to body joint, and hose clamp it to the wheel of a tractor and drive for a half hour. Jim

I have taken them apart, it is a real pain.

Grind the spot welds off on the retainer, pull retainer without messing it up, then pull the mesh out.

When ever I want to clean one up I take a 5 gal bucket and put the air cleaner in it then fill it with gas and let it sock a few days. I do try to agitate it some to help free up the junk so it falls out and down to the bottom of the bucket

Does anyone know where you can get replacement retainers for the mesh?

Not a serviceable item, so unless you were creative they don't exist. Jim
