Air compressor tank replacement

I have an 80(?) gallon air compressor tank that the bottom has rusted out. Where is the best, and maybe cheapest place to get a replacement tank? It needs to have the motor/compressor mounting plate on top-it is a vertical. Some of the ones I see are a little pricy to me, compared to buying a whole new compressor. I also have a spare motor and compressor, so I really only want a tank, if reasonably priced. Thanks, Mark.

For the small size look for ones at a semi truck parts place. They were really reasonable priced compared to other air tanks. I used one for my small compressor and it worked out great.

There are a lot of places around but be prepared to pay more for the tank than you paid for the complete compressor new. I'm in the same boat and I'm looking for a used compressor tank. Will probably wash the tank out and put a fuel tank liner in it to prevent further rusting.

No question, you can buy a new tank for less than a whole new compressor. Check out Grainger or some other air compressor specialists. Get your specs lined up and check out the options.

When my former place of work switched from steel to aluminum propane tanks for the fork trucks I was able to get some of the old steel tanks. They are about 10 gallon, and heavy enough to weld on.

I'm worried about an explosion so I basically want a new tank. Northern tool has one and it is cheaper than Grainger, but they still seem high priced- about half the price of a whole new unit. Just searching options. Mark.

I think half price of new is the best you're going to get. Northern Tool is about the lowest price I've found on things like that.

Only way to do better would be to find a used one, but then you don't know what you're getting. I bought used ones that seemed solid at auctions only to get home and find out that they're rusted out.

If you have a leak I would think it is too late for that. Also google air tank explosions-it will make you
think. Mark.

Yeah, I think you're right about costs. And I am afraid to go used-this one came out of a body shop where
the owner sold out due to cancer. The date on the tank tag says 1985, and I have only had it for maybe 5
years. I also have a spare motor and compressor. Mark.

I can't imagine why anyone would think of using oil to stop a leak, LOL. I am thinking of protecting the tank from rusting, and I have found references to doing it. One obviously doesn't want oil in the air, but the tank would have to get extremely hot for oil to become airborne in the tank.

I usually just watch craigslist and FB for somebody selling a busted one. That's how I source motors and spare parts for my pumps, usually don;t have a need for the tank.

60 gal, but well worth the $$. Copy & paste below---HTH
