Air Impact Gun

Bought one today at Lowes. $150.00. Got an
Ingersol-Rand 1/2" drive. Looked like the best
they had over Cambell-Hausfield and Kobalt. Had
air wrench with it and 5 sockets. Noticed when I
got home "MADE IN CHINA". I haven't used it yet
and would consider taking it back if I could get a
comparable thats made in USA. Anybody know of a
similar priced, good brand that's made here?
Looked thru archives with no definite answer but a
lot of discussion. Also need source for sockets
bigged than came with it. Need at least 1 1/16".
Thanks in advance.

AMEN BROTHER I ALWAYS try my BEST to buy AMERICAN...I don't care if it costs me more money...if you want it to last, buy AMERICAN! It could be your job that lost the the chinese next!

You can get good or cheap with air guns. Choose ONE. They're probably both going to be made in China but at least the better of them will be a twin hammer setup that will make some torque. Basically... I look for the highest torque rating I can get in a diecast housing. The composite guns are supposed to be good too but if they're subjected to more than 90 psi they tend to swell and become useless... and I've yet to see anyone actually regulate air pressure to an air gun. More is always better...

I use the composites every day,,, treat'em like a red headed step child,,, run 175/180 PSI,,, the only problem I have is every 7 to 10 years the trigger falls out,,, its time for a new gun... Even if they did not last as long a few lbs less weight adds up in daily use so for me the lighter the better...

A few years ago a trigger fell out,,, brought a new trigger but it would not stay in,,, the housing was just worn out,,, went to lowe's and got the IR china deal with a free air ratchet,,, next thang I know I am get'n a cortozone (spell cK) shot in my elbow,,, the lowe's IR special lasted just enuff to make it out of warranty,,, air ratchet the same... It will probably last a DIY'er a lifetime but not on a daily basics... Got a new composite IR and have not had a issue with my elbow...

Know way I could work if I had to use 90 PSI,,, well maybe a body sander,,, gotta get'er done....

I spec NO air tool is made in the USA,,, some are assembled here but not made here... IR & aircat get the best reviews on the professional sights,,, Snap-off for those to stupid to know better are can only pay for a air tool $25 a a week  ... next air ratchet I buy I am gonna try a matco,, and got a IR Hammer head on my wish list...

I have 3 CP's . The newest is the "turbo" model and it can really twist some nuts. Light weight but it kicks out the torque. I thought it was made in Japan, but not sure.

(quoted from post at 01:06:05 12/24/10) Don't get the Chicago and the Central Pneumatic confused. The Central is Harbor Freight.

Trust me, THAT is one distinction that I know well. There is NO COMPARISON between Chicago and Central! Unless you are just spinning one freshly oiled nuts onto freshly oiled studs.

Rick, I'm pretty sure that the last 1/2 dozen Chicago P tools were stamped made in Japan. But my mind is getting old and weak...
