Have a IH 584 diesel. Water pump bad and replaced. Found that the air intake scoop and broken. Repaired with plumbers tape and epoxy. ( new cost $84.00 and glues was couple bucks) Went to reinstall and could not figure how. Faced it front to the radiator and the top hood frame would not go down. Cannot face to the rear. Anyone have a picture of how or I am going to discard and out a car filter on. Frustrating. Thanks

I has been a while since ?I had the hood off our 574or 674 which are just the next model older than yours and I don't believe that it goes past the rad just to the top of it and has a for lack of a better term deflector at the front of it to hold the front end of it up by the top under the hood.

Hello, welcome to YT.
The only photo I have is from IH 74 series none from 84 series, see photo below.
I assume you are talking about item #6, there was a strip of rubber weather stripping both on bottom on top of rad and on top against hood to prevent damage by rubbing but in these old tractors the weather stripping is disintegrated. The front of it stuck almost into the top of the of the front part of the grill to get cool air intake.
Hope this helps.

I have had the hood off of many of these. Look at the underside of the hood and you will see where the intake snorkel fits. The way to put the hood on, is to slide the snorkel to the rear, just above the filter housing, NOT fastened to the air filter housing, leaving the clamp on the snorkel. After you lower the hood in place, then slide the snorkel forward and onto the air filter, and tighten the clamp. Mark.

email dsks@ windstream.net OR cell 417 770 5402. Thanks a million. Driving me nuts.
Thanks I see that someone here sent photo that helps.

Thanks that is exactly what I was looking for. When I removed the cover it was broken, I repaired and put on in this position as it would only fit facing forward, like your picture. I was happy until I set the cover back on and it broke the scoop again. it seems it is pressing against the scoop so I will to figure out why. Repaired the scoop again with JB Weld. Where is that picture from? I have three manuals and not one has an engine picture like that. Thanks again.

Will look at that and try again. Thanks for taking the time.
