Alaskan Cruise

The wife and I just came back from an Alaskan Cruise. We sailed for 7 days, and hit several ports in Alaska. While in Scagway, Alaska we took a river raft tour. On the bus trip to the raft input I saw a 9-N sitting faithfully waiting to be called upon to work. It seemed to be in good shape and I'm sure there are more in Alaska.

P.S. If you ever have the time and money to take an Alaskan Cruise do it. It is the best thing we have ever done for ourselves.

me and the wife have be to alaska for the last 3 summers. boat from seatle twice and once from vancover. its the best trip ever. good pepole and better food. thanks Bob

Never had the cruise but ran a couple trouble calls up there for a previous employer. Been there in them middle of summer and winter both of which were facinating. Was able to drive around and do some sight seeing each time.

The big cruise lines cruises are great but the much better and a lot more expensive way is the small boats such as Cruise West runs. They traverse the real inside passage that the large ships can't navigate in. Also the Alaska Maritime Highway Ferrys take that route, these are very affordable unless you take your car. Not taking a car is no problem as one can be rented at any stop. Two years ago my sister took the two week Cruise West, brother 2 week Holland America and wife and I drove and saw the inland, its glaciers and the seaside ones from the air. We took 3 weeks, drove 3000 miles in AK, NWT and the YT and what we saw and the folks we met put the cruisers in awe. What is the best way, depends on your needs, Cruise West is informal up close and personal but very expensive, Big Cruise are lines very structured but luxerious, ferry travel is great but must be carefully planned ahead. Driving, you see the real Alaska and CA but you are on your own. If driving in the summer know where you are going to spend the next night or two or you may be sleeping under the stars or in your car. I say you can't beat it. If you drive out of Anchorage rent your car away from the airport and save 10-20%, (airport taxes).
