algae in fuel

has anyone ever had a problem with algae in there fuel tank on there truck or storage tanks. if so is there anything from a parts store that will work to kill it. if not can you tell me what works the best and where it can be found. thanks

I haven't had it happen first hand, but I know a guy who's brother in law...Actually I am friends with the BIL as well and they had problems in their combine. Had to drain the fuel and change filters and all that jazz.
I think there is stuff you can treat the fuel with to prevent it. I would Google it up.

I buy an algaecide from Tractor Supply to treat my 500 gallon tank. I treat it every spring and late summer as I figured that's when it's most likely to become a problem. It has not happened to me but I have heard horror stories about algae getting into fuel systems so I decided to take the easy route.

LUCAS oil products makes a algecide for fuel. If you have it already have a couple of filters on hand does real good about striping it out.

You should be able to walk into any equipment dealer, or auto parts store, and ask for a "diesel fuel algaecide." They will direct you to the fuel additives aisle, where there will be 1-3 different products. Pick one. They're all good and they all work as advertised.

At TSC, you just go to the fuel additives section and look around. There aren't that many diesel additives, and the word "ALGAE" will appear on the one you want, right next to the word "KILLS" or "PREVENTS."

i have tried that at a couple parts stores and they know just as much as i do about. that is why i am asking about it on here cause i figured someone has used it before. the people that work in the parts stores around here dont know much about there products.

Go to a real parts store, like one where they can make hydraulic hoses and know how to use books. Don't just go to AutoZone, Advanced, OReillys, etc :lol:

Do you have TSC by you? Half their workers are high schoolers, but some still know what's going on. Go to their website, I'm sure you will see the product you are after there.

Edit - Here I did the "work" for you. It took more time to come back and post than find the info. I went to the TSC website and used keywords "fuel algea" and this was the big hit.
