All crop 90 belt question

On my recently purchased 90 it has a straw chopper on it. One of the belts were broken and the small one was hanging on it. Can anybody tell me a belt number or belt length on both of those belts for the straw chopper?

Loop a tape measure around the pulleys and it will get you real close for length. Now with our x ray vision it looks like about a 1/2 inch or 5/8 width. Since those combines have noe been made in 50-60 years probably unless some one still has one setting around nobody will have measurements for a belt and a straw chopper was not a common thing on them around here since every body baled or hauled the straw for bedding for livestock.

My 90 (which is destined for the scrappers) has the belt hanging off it that was used for a straw chopper. If I have a chance and remember, I'll take a measurement next time I'm at that farm. But if were me, I'd just measure as Cat-Guy's suggests.

Keep in mind the designation of classic-section V-belts: The belt number given is the cord length, not the outside circumference. Ex. an A90 belt has a 90" pitch length, 92" outside length. If you're wrapping a tape in the sheaves, the measurement you get with the tape sunk down partially in the grooves will probably be closer to the pitch length than the outside length. If you're wrapping a rope around and measuring it after, the measurement you get will probably be closer to the outside length than the pitch length.

There's probably enough adjustment to have some flexibility with one belt size either way. Buy it from somewhere like TSC where you can go back and return/swap it out for one size larger or smaller if you need. I believe it's an A-section belt (1/2" top width).

Further to above: The all-crop parts website run by Tom seems to indicate the 72 (which I suspect has the same chopper) uses a B130 belt (or at least, that's what you find when cross-referencing the Allis part number he has). Definitely worth measuring before ordering one, to see if that's anywhere close.

Your post seems to mention 'two' belts. Are you sure you're talking about a straw chopper and not the straw spreader? The chopper (as far as I can recall) just uses one dedicated belt. I think the spreader uses two (although I never had a spreader on mine, so I don't know that for sure).

A belt comes from the sheaves below and comes up to a spring controlled idler system with 2 pivot points. This has 2 pulleys, one for the long belt and one for the short belt that goes to the chopper. The long belt which was hanging in that area and was broken was a B108. So I bought that and using the short belt and the long belt I can’t get the belts on either at the same time. That’s why I’m looking for a measurement so I couldn’t get the right belt next time. Thanks for the replies.
