Looking for a bigger tractor. What does everybody think about the 185 or 190 Allis diesels. Parts availability, durability, economy, etc. I had a friend that had bad luck with a 190XT diesel engine, anything to that? Thanks.

Getting parts will start with proximity to dealer. The worst thing about the 190 was a weak rear end. Didn't help when guys turned up the pump. The 185 used more fuel than the 170 without doing that much more work. Also, the last I heard 190 prices were high due to demand from collectors and pullers. As much as I always loved the 190s, I'd say you might consider looking at an IH 806 or 1056. Cheap, plentiful and strong is a good combination for a working machine.

185 is my favorite. I like the 170-175 gassers, but I don't care for the perkins. The 301" Allis is much superior.
