My son started a small hay business and is looking for a tractor to pull his side delivery rake and to use moving stuff around the place and just a little
putting around tractor. Also he wants to paint one up and drive it in the parade and have a project to fix up and restore. He has been looking for a CA
but a C has come up local that a belly mower that looks pretty straight. Do you Allis guys think this would be a good little tractor for his needs or wait
for a CA to show up? Also the C is very close to home but the guy said it is stuck but the exhaust is covered its just been sitting

Personal choice, of the two I would wait for a CA. We had one and it was a tough, hardworking tractor. It was my FIL's main tractor for years. Among other things it did a lot of raking over the years and FIL baled with it and a 14T. The CA has the 4-speed transmission. His had an aftermarket 3-point hitch and with the wheel clutch it had live PTO and hydraulics. The biggest drawback was it was harder to get on and off (as one gets older) than some tractors, but the C was the same in that respect.

Thanks Jim. Kind of the way Im leaning just this one showed up close to home. I guess it isnt stuck just wont stay running. It does have a new rear
rim on it I think. Those CAs just seem like a nice little package

I've had both a B and a C with belly mowers. Great little tractors, but, as already stated, hard for this old man to get on and off! I could wonder if CA's come up for sale very often?

A D14 would make him a great tractor for what he wants as well. With the power director he would have live PTO and hydraulics, and they are easier to get on and off (you might appreciate that more than he would at this point in life).

I'd wait for the CA.I rake hay with a David Brown 780,usually sell very reasonable, burns very little fuel,3pt with true live PTO.Spend just a little more and get a lot more tractor these days.

While a CA is has a few features a C does not a C will do what you describe he wants it for easily.

I dought they are that expencive so get the C and get it in shape while waiting for the CA to show up and he will have a tractor to use while waiting. And then redoing the CA. have a tractor to use. And then by that time he might have a small square baler to go with the hay business and the CA would then handle it with the C on rake. I cannot remember seeing either come up for sale so he could have a long wait. Unless he needs a PTO then the C would handle every thing he is wanting, he would just be missing a gear for speed for some jobs. Check tractor data for the speeds of both the C and CA to see if that missing gear would make problems with the C. And by the time the higher priced tractor CA, 3X or a D series, 5+X will show up he may not be wanting a tractor any more. Me at 80 could not handle the seating on any AC before the D series.

From a distance outside of the rear wheels, power adjust on the CA and a different seat you would be hard pressed to tell the difference in a C or CA.

Second gear in a C is fine for raking and mowing unless the hay is VERY thick then maybe first. And it will easily handle a 6 ft. mower bar. And if the CA when it comes along has the axle clutch it would bale fine too I think with a small square baler. The axle clutch allow stopping for a couple of seconds while keeping the baler powered to get through a heavy spot in the windrow.

The C is a great little tractor. I raked hay for years with one for Dad. They will run all day on 5 gallons of gas Dad used to say. While it didn't have 4 speeds 2nd seemed to work well for raking. It IS difficult to mount and dismount but so is the CA.
