Allis Challmers Toolboxes

Can someone please tell me why there is a large round hole in Allis-Chalmers toolboxes?

I believe it's for a grease gun hose to stick through?

x 2 on the hole is for a grease gun hose, or extension pipe.

New WDs came on flat cars with the crank sealed in the tool box. Since the crank was longer than the box, the handle stuck out through that hole.

We used the one on our WD45 to stick the end of the Craftsman adjustable wrench thru,also makes a ready made Blue Bird house.

The rubber grease gun hose came out though that hole.
