Allis Chalmers 180 question

I always liked the Allis tractors of that era and am thinking about buying a 180 diesel. Have heard lots of talk about AC"s jumping out of gear. Is this a problem with this series tractor? Will it pop out if I take it for a test drive or does it need to be under load? What else should a guy look at on these old girls?

Yes, unfortunately it is a problem. My experience is that it generally happened going downhill. Especially with a load pushing you, which is of course especially dangerous!

There is a 180 listed on the Columbus, Ohio Craigs list for 4500. Price seems a bit low to me, says it runs good. Pics look ok from what I can see. It doesn't belong to me nor do I know the person that owns it. I believe it is showing on the July 22 date and is in Lancaster Ohio, I live about 85 miles south of there. Keith
