Bought this tractor a few months back as is and not running.Got it going the other day.Runs and operates really good.Shows 1597 hours on a working meter.Like a lot of loader tractors this one has front axle issues.Left side was repaired by previous owner.Need to deal with the right side for obvious reasons.Need to replace tierods, repack wheel bearing etc..

That's too bad, obvious abuse. We had the same loader on the same tractor. With a little three point hitch backhoe on the back plus loaded tires, I could push an amazing amount. I had to do some welding on the loader, but no tractor damage. Congratulations on getting it running.

Thanks,I really like how the power director works, can be feathered between low, neutral and high?

Keeping the linkage lubed is for easy precise control. Wrapping your finger around the quadrant bar steady's your hand for smooooth control.

Nice find! Yesterday's Tractor has the front axle parts, tie rods, power director clutch. Check it out:

No, I meant why would one want to slip the PD..... of course I am for well-lubricated linkage....

It sounds like you thought I asked under what circumstances you would NOT want stiff, rusty, bound-up linkage.....

You've never operated one apparently. You "inch" the wet oil cooled P.D. clutch for live PTO work as needed. Some people use it for starting loads. It's actually more durable than a dry foot clutch.

I wish IH had scrapped the TA and stolen Ford's Dual Power.

The sprag idea was good in '54 but they hung onto it way too long.

Then Allison tried it again in the sixties with the TT 2220..... a two-speed converter controlled with a sprag clutch.... a really powerful trans but broke up that sprag clutch with alarming regularity.
