Allis Chalmers D17 series 4 electrical problems.

I’m working on my Grandfather’s Allis Chalmers D17 series 4 gas engine. I can’t seem to get the starter solenoid to turn the starter on. I replaced the push button and key switch also tested the starter. It had a bad solenoid. I have all the manuals. My problem is neither the key switch or push bottom will engage the solenoid. It’s a 4 pole starter solenoid. Please let me know if you have any advice or ideas.

I do t see where a ground would go. I have the battery set for positive to ground like the manual said. In the chain of battery, solenoid, key switch and push button I don’t see where it’s grounded to engage the solenoid.

Need volt meter to test the the positive ground battery cable is ground to frame.
test starter is ground to tractor frame
test I’d solenoid is ground to frame .
do you have 12 volts to starter with key and push bottom?

It is 12 volt positive ground or six volt ?
