Allis chalmers hd10

I m going to pick up a 48 hd10 with a 4-71 diesel in it, I ve gotten everything ready to crank but wanted to know if this would have been a 12 or a 24 volt machine?

(quoted from post at 07:04:25 11/10/22) According to Tractor Data . com, it shows Starter Volts = 12

I saw that, however the starter has two rows of brushes and a twelve volt battery barely makes the starter make a noise, just wondering if it could be 24 before I start tearing it apart, just wondering if anybody had hands on experience with this.

It may be 24 volts. I don't see a voltage shown for the HD10 or HD10W in TractorData.

Edit. Found 12 volt starter in the engine details. Could have had a 24 volt one installed over the years, or the one you have needs a good overhaul.

Y all are probably right, I ll take two and give it a shot, if not I ll try to get it out, it s got a 12 Garwood blade so getting to it isn t the easiest proposition. I ve got the injectors and rack checked out and ready to go, if I can get it to turnover I know it ll bust off and drive onto the trailer and come home, looks like one more trip is in the books. He s letting it go for scrap so I can t be too mad at the extra time it may take.

Even if it is 12 volts, you won't hurt anything hooking it up with 24, it will just turn over faster. Lots of people start 6 volt tractors with 12, I
have done it for years.

If it hasn't been run for a while and until you get to know it have a way to shut it down incase it runs away. Possibly there is an emergency shutdown at the intake to
the blower. Or have something to shut off the air supply some place/how.

Will do, I ve got the injectors out and unstuck, also the shutdown lever in the kill position turns off the injectors and closes the intake shutdown flap simultaneously.

If you have had the injectors out and re installed you may want to set the plunger height again. There is a gauge for this, allows easy setting of the plunger height from
the block. Looks like a pin a few inches long with a calibrated stop or step for the plunger height. I guess if you know the setting you could make one or use a dial
caliper. Will probably run without setting but for even fuel injection/distribution it should be checked.

12 Volt. pos ground I think. Sure looks like mine, I have a Garwood angle dozer, mine was
built in 41. Ran mine for a couple minutes in June first time since 1984. Long story will
finish working on it in May.
