Allis-chalmers M

The model U and UC also had the UM engine. Although early ones used a Continental engine. Don’t know if the M also used Continental.

Thanks.
one question, is the magneto in the picture the correct model allis-chalmers m 1938?

I think that by 1938 it would have came with a flange mount FMJ 4B3 or derivative of a Fairbanks Morse mag. Base mount mags were only on the early tractors up until ‘35 or maybe into 1936 production. Need to look at the engine to double check though because the magneto mount bracket could be pretty easily swapped. Good luck, Mike

thanks for the comprehensive information. here are pictures of my machine. is it possible that these are not original?

I'm not familiar with these parts. The magneto leg has been machined, you can tell by the mounting holes.

I don’t find that in my parts book. I wonder if the bracket was sold with the mag to convert it? Not familiar with that manufacturer, if it wor great but if not I would be inclined to remove the bracket which looks to be mounted using the flange mount holes and find a Fairbanks, Wico, or even a Farmall mag as parts will be much easier to find. I will attach a couple of pictures of mag brackets. The base mount with no mag is on a 1935, the second is on a 1937 and the third is on a 1942. Both the ‘37 and ‘42 look the same to me

Thanks for the comprehensive information. I suspect that my machine has been custom tuned afterwards.I want to restore this machine to its original state. Can you find me the magneto as shown in picture 1?Do you have any other parts for this machine?

I would think you could find an original Fairbanks Morse mag fairly easy. Where are you located? I likely have some extra parts but I am in eastern Washington.

I live in Finland. I pay for the parts through a paypal account or I have a friend who ships the parts to Finland and also handles the payments. He lives in Grand Rapids

Maybe that is a factory provision for an export tractor? Is that mag common over there? Do you have pictures of the whole tractor? I wonder if there may be other differences.

Here are a few pictures of what parts I need.I have another Allis-Chalmers M that was assembled in Sweden some time ago. All the nameplates are in Swedish. My e-post [email protected]

Good looking tractor, are they both standard or narrow gauge? Look to be later versions judging by the sheet metal. Late style seat back, large hole in the cowl so that fuel could be switched from the operator’s seat and looks like last style air cleaner. What mag is on the other machine? Electric start used Autolite starters on mine. Tractor look to be the same as mine so I wonder if the electric parts might be all that is different so as to source locally available maintenance parts? I will attach a few pictures of some of mine, Mike

The Swedish machine has a Fairbanks Morse.Probably original.Maybe the yellow one is the original assembled in America? Both are missing the oil filter base + filter. Fan blades are needed, air filter assembly one piece and the Swedish machine needs a complete radiator core + casting parts.

Interesting, what are the serial numbers stamped into transmission covers? I looked up and translated the mag tag to say “service though Bosch* so maybe just a normal Bosch conversion. I will look and see what I might have for spare parts
