Allis Speed Patrol grader

This is for sale near me and I'm very
tempted to try buying it, but it has me a
little confused. I thought these speed
patrols were just based on wc models? This
looks like a wd45 to me because of the
snap coupler. Was it maybe one that
someone retrofitted the grader parts to a
later tractor? Can anyone tell if the
front has been cut or just extended for
the hydraulic pump?

Looks like they just welded the WD frame rails to the front of the old WC rail after cutting off the appropriate length. No reason one couldnt do that; pretty simple really.

According to the serial number, that's a 1950 WD. According to my books, the last year for the speed patrol was 1950. So maybe that's the original tractor with that unit. Maybe just lengthened to accommodate the hydraulic pump.

The grader serial tag says 1E125, which is 1940 (first year made).
So I doubt it is either original or with a WD based tractor. They were still offering the WF tractor till 1951, so no reason they could not have continued making the grader with WC parts.
