Allmand backhoe

George posts pics of his Terramites, so thought I'd post my Allmand. Its what Terramites want to be when they grow up. lol
I used to buy some equipment at Ritchie Bros. sales, and consign them with a guy. We both made out all right. When I got the Allmand, I asked him to drop it off at my place for a couple of jobs- he said "I really don't want to do that. If you use it, I'll never get it back to sell." He was right!

I am sure you are correct. I have never heard of, or seen one until your post, but it sure looks to be a very well built unit. What does it have for an engine??
Case also built compact TLBs, but that one looks a bit bigger, and better built than them. Case built their own chassis and loader and fitted a Davis backhoe to them.

Rental unit in Creston Ia had 1 for sale last fall, was asking 12000.00 for it. 1/2 the size of a regular hoe.

The backhoe is a Brad Co built hoe. The motors could be several brands depending on the year/model. They could be gas or diesel too. They are much more rugged than the Teramites.

Allmand Brothers are in Nebraska. They have currently quit making the backhoes. They make good quality stuff. They now are making the portable light setups used in construction. There demand for them had sky rocketed so they focused their manufacturing on that. They still support the backhoes.

Engine is an air-cooled Kohler, IIRC. Backhoe operation is very smooth, and quite a bit of power for its size. Locomotion is hydrostatic, which isn't as smooth as I'd like, but I think it just needs a little tinkering with the linkage. Have never really used the loader bucket, because I have a loader tractor that is better at that job.

If Allmand hadn't gone out of business I would have bought one. As bad as Terramites are, they must be doing something right, still in business since 1965. Many people hate Kohler engines. Terramites use Kohlers for the T5C, and diesels for the bigger ones. I think your Allmand has a Kohler too. I bought mine 9 years ago, and it does everything I need for landscaping and clearing brush. I've put over 2000 hours on mine so far.

Not many Allmands in area, only seen one.

Be careful, there are many similarities between Allmand and Terramite.

Hope you have as much fun using yours as I've had using mine in my retirement years.
Not to mention, it a back saver with the attachments I've made for mine.

Thanks for checking in, Geo- Sorry, I just couldn't help diggin' ya a little! (Pun intended)
I googled Allmand, and apparently they are still in business, just not making tractor/backhoes anymore. Many speculate that the rise of the small excavators has cut into compact backhoe popularity.
I'm not a big Kohler fan either, but it's been OK so far. I don't use mine as much as you do, but may get more seat time after I retire next month.
