Alternative cutting wheels?

I bought a Dremel 8220, cordless because I need to use it in the shed and other places without electricity.

What are alternative brands that sell cutting wheels? Where can I buy cutting wheels?

I bought some Dremel 426 reinforced cutting wheels to cut metal, but they’re kind of expensive at 5 for $10.
Seems like you go thru one kinda fast.

I assume other companies make cutting wheels, cheaper. What would be some company names and model number of the wheel?

This is one of those things that google isn’t very good at finding. There seems to be other Dremel models and a
variety of cutting wheels.

Funny story, I went to the Dremel web site, a message popped up, asking for my email address, said I could get
discounts, so I did.
I soon got an email congratulating me for being subscribed for a year, offering me 20% off, so I bought the 8820
for $80.

Thank you!

Will that tool take a 1/4 inch arbor? If so, wheels intended for a die grinder will be much cheaper.

It's a little late now, but if you're going use it mainly with cutoff wheels, one of the cordless Roto-Zip style tools that accept a 1/4 inch arbor might be a better choice. Here's one from Ryobi.

That's the best wheel I have found for that tool they are for light work are hard to get to places it would not be your go to cut off tool...

(quoted from post at 07:07:02 11/25/20) There is no way a little Dremel has the torque to turn a 3" die grinder cutoff wheel.

+1
Not with a tool that has a 1/8" arbor and designed to use a 1 1/2" cutoff wheel.

I've had good luck with diamond wheels. Lots of choices on Amazon, ebay, or wherever, more than likely all made in the same factory in China, but I find they cut faster and last longer in many materials than abrasive wheels, and they'll cut some materials, like carbide, that most abrasive wheels will not. Ones from Amazon that I've bought and liked are below, but there's plenty other available--you pays your money and takes your chance.

Tim V, I looked at those wheels on Amazon. How do they attach to the mandrel? The Dremel wheels won't twist but I have not had much luck with wheels staying on a mandrel where they are held by only a tiny screw.

They're held on with a screw. I've never had a problem keeping them on, and you do get several mandrels with most of the kits, including the one I linked. Again, it's a case of spending 10 bucks and seeing if they work for you in your application, as well as using them within their capabilities. They're a 1/8" mandrel run by a motor with a a small fraction of a horsepower, and need a bit of finesse in their use. That's just a general statement, not directed at you personally, but bears mentioning as many people expect Dremel-type tools to do the work of a 9" grinder and then blame the tool when they don't.
