Alternator bracket

Finishing up on the conversion and only had the tractor running on and off for maybe an hour while tuning the carb and timing. Shredded the brand new belt during that time. It appears to me that the lower bracket that was supplied with the kit isn't drilled correctly and twisting the alternator so the belt doesnt line up quite right. I noticed this when I installed it, however being the first one I've done, didnt really question it. Anyone else with this issue? Thinking I should open up the hole or just make my own bracket if it's not supposed to be this way for some reason..

I never buy them I always make my own because of this.

I would send that bracket back to where ever you bought from. They need to know there is a quality control problem. They should pay shipping too.

I agree! Unfortunately "quality" is not what it used to be.. at least I can fix most of this stuff with a gas ax and a big hammer! :twisted:

I would heat and bend the bracket until the alternator bolt is inline with the tractor.

Do you still have the generator bracket???

Send that china made thing back and put the generator bracket on the motor "Backwards" (the front facing toward the back)
Then with a piece of all thread rod and a few nuts and washers you can put the alternator on.

I do still have it. I was looking at it trying to come up with a plan that wasnt too extravagant and it sounds like your idea would work perfectly. I may add a piece of 1/2" emt over the bolt as a sleeve. Thanks for the thought!

I turned my gen mount around, cut the back brace off & welded it to the front, and then added a brace that goes from the front to the timing cover bolt, to stop any chance of vibrations.
