Alternator exciter

I am now using an exciter button on the alternator. If I replace it with a 3 watt bulb on the same wire will that work along with the jumper wire fron #2 to main charging post.
 
An incandescent bulb in place of the button should work to send excitation power to, the #1 spade. The bulb will light when the alternator is not charging and go out when charging starts. A wire from the #2 spade to the output post provides system condition sensing feedback to the regulator and should be installed in either case, button or lamp.
