I have a 47 8N and switched the generator over to a GM alternator. I am not getting a charge from the alternator. I have tried three new alternators and I am not getting any charging from them. Anybody have an idea why? Is there a good site to see the exact way it should be hooked up? Thanks in advance. THese forums are priceless!

3 and no charge.. i hate to tell you this.. but i bet you are hooking them up wrong.

#1.. are yuo now negative ground.. and have that 12v battery in there?

If a 3 wire unit.. then hook big charge wire tot he wire that used to go to the battery connection on the old vreg.

#2 wire loops down to the big charge stud.

#1 wire runs thru a 194 bulb marker lamp to the switched (coil) sode of the ignition switch.. or you can use a diode.. 1a/50piv works.. but 3a and 200piv is better.. a radioshack 276-1661 or 276-1141 will work.. A 1n5408 will work.

Diode has a striped end.. the cathode.. place this 'towards' the #1 terminal.. and hook the unmarked end tot he ignition switch.. etc.

post back.
