Alternator Output

I am inquiring about how much an ammeter should register if working right. Mine only registers maybe 5 amps at full throttle. Is this correct or do I have a defective meter. Thanks.

Well, that may be all it needs, if the battery is charged up.

If the battery is fully charged it should register next to nothing.

Wanna test it?

Leave the switch off, and turn the engine for a while, stop and let it set a couple of minutes, then do it again (don't flood it or anything) what we are trying to do here is to run the battery down some.

Then turn the switch on, crank it, and pull her wide open, and see what it says.

Like soundguy told you yesterday,On a real well charged healthy battery, right after start you will see high charge for a few minutes that will taper down to near 0 after a bit...

Like Tom N Ms said,With engine runningat about 1/2 throttle check across the battery post with an analog meter. Digital ones go crazy on these old tractors and other old stuff. Your meter should read about 12-14.5 volts if the alternator is working right.

Like Old said . As far as how many amps depends on how charged or discharged the battery is and how good or bad it is.

And they are all correct, didnt you beleve them?
Why ask again.

LOL, I guess I missed all of that.

I don't, most of the time get into the charging issues topics all the time.

Most of the time I think I read everything on here, then later I find stuff just a few days back that I have never seen before.

Thank goodness that just seems to happen on here.

If it starts happening in everything that I do, I am very worried.
