Alternator Output

I installed a delco 10SI alternator on my 8N about 1 year ago according to the recommendations in the archives. I have had a little trouble with keeping my battery charged so I tested the alternator output with 3 different multimeters and they all showed 13 volts. I had the alternator tested at a alternator repair shop and they said good 14 volts. I reinstalled and it showed 13 volts once again. Has anyone out there had similar troubles? Thanks for any info.

If you used a consumer grade digital VOM.. ignition noise may have made it read wrong.. a cheap analog volt meter is better at this.

Did you install a correct 3 wire setup.. or the foolish trouble-prone 1-wire setup.

As Waylon Jennings would say lets get back to the basics...

What seems to be the issue we are working on, 13 - 13.5 volts are bragging rights.

Is your battery dead?

How old is it!?!?!?!?

It tests higher voltage at the shop because they tested it with a ground connected DIRECTLY to the alternator..... while on the tractor the ground is likely being found thru the mounting brackets to the motor, etc.
Run a grounding strap to the motor and from the motor to the battery ground terminal. (Watch polarity!)

Are you measuring voltage at battery terminals OR directly from alternator terminal to alternator housing? Try is each way & that may shed light on subject.

i am not positive here about the delco unit, but the rpm's wich it is being tested at may have something to do with it.
