When converting from 6v to 12v what Delco alternator do you guy like? Model # ? I would do the 3 wire type. I got one that runs clock wise witch is wrong, ok for diesel. Try to get a model that would work on most farmalls. Thanks oldiron29

model of alternator not critical. Get one from a 78-80 General Motors vehicle

If it for an H or M Farmall consider an alternator from a 78 to 81 Datsun/Nissan. It is a smaller case and wires the same as Delco.

The Delco will fit under the hood of both the M and the H no problem without cutting the hood.

I use the 3 wire. I do have 2 tractors with the 1 wire and when those alternators fail they will be changed over to the 3 wire.

(Not to answer for Matt) But a 10 SI Delco is probably the MOST common GM alternator. It is internal regulated and I would get the smallest amp output that I could.37 amp would be plenty, but 55 amps seem to be more common for me to find.

But like has been said. the foreign alternators have a smaller body on them.

Most alternators, including the one you need, run CW.

ALL alternators will charge in either direction. They are "bi-directional!

That being said, if you need to run one CCW (at the rear of a Detroit is ONE example) it's a good thing to have the pulley nut REAL tight and/or Loctite it so it doesn't spin off!

I have had a Delco 10SI on my 1950 "H" for 20 or 30 years. It works, except to get it to charge quick and taper off I installed a diode from CharlieU from this site. Very economcial. Now it works like new. Other thing, it fits, but there"s a dollar-bill"s-thickness of gap beteeen it and the hood. I"ve heard the Hitachi or whatever it is, fits much better.

Alternator is now on and working fine. From what I have read only the fan make them Clock wise or not. I see the 7127 model around alot I will
try that # next time.
