Has anyone priced aluminum channel lately? I was blown away yesterday as I was looking at buying a 4 foot x 3 inch aluminum channel for a project. $83.00 Wow!

Most trips I make to sell scrap I take time to browse through the yard for usable materials.
Nowhere is the term "one man's trash might be another's treasure" better exemplified than from looking around a scrap yard.
In the same breath no better example of greed and jealously preventing a business to sell their products than auto salvage yards. Ask anyone that has worked at an auto salvage and they will tell you that so many wheels pile up they become a nuisance but they want $25 and up for them. When the crusher comes the yard fills cars with wheels to get them out of the way.

I can't say on aluminum but the local salvage yard here has about the same price for used rusty steel I can buy new for and don't have to spend a lot of time cleaning it up. Also depends on what you are using the material for.

Yes, Aluminum is expensive. I had a contract building mounting brackets for solar panels. They were made from aluminum Angle-flat bar and all Stainless Steel hardware. 4 x4 x 1/4 in angle was $12.00 a foot and 2 x 2 x 1/4 angle was $6.00 a foot. I bought several thousand dollars worth over a 2 year period. Stainless Steel is a lot more expensive than aluminum. We have done a few of those jobs too.
