American made saws

A blog I regularly read is by Lloyd Kahn, writer of the Shelter books and others. Today he mentioned a couple of his American made saws so I thought I would comment on mine.

Here are my American made saws

I bought the bandsaw in the mid eighties from a lady whose son wanted it to make toys. He never put it together and she was tired of tripping over it.

I bought the delta from a friend of a friend who was moving to a retirement home and was giving up woodworking.

The Radial Arm Saw is from the early 70s. I bought one off Craig's list from an estate. There were many missing parts that I thought I could fabricate so it was a very good price. During disassembly I found an unexpected broken part that caused me to drop the motor and smash the end. I looked for a parts saw and found one on Craig's list for $40 which turned out to be in much better shape than the one needing parts. I swapped bases and there it is.

The Unisaw came from a woodworking shop that went out of business. I mentioned I was looking for one and the owners friend was wanting it out of his way so I made a very good deal on a nearly new Unisaw.

Sadly B and D sold off delta to i belive the Chinese

When did that happen? The Web site still shown Delta and Porter Cable as part of the company.

Just bought some spring hangers for my truck.Boxes have the Dorman name on them.I have used Dorman products since the mid fifties.Now made in China.Dorman is a co that started in 1918.
