Ammeter hook-up

My tractor is "51 sidemount, 12v. - The ammeter is new, but doesn"t work. I have a wire running from the "Batt." terminal on the alternator to the "+" side of the meter. The other wire runs from the positive side of the solenoid to the negative post of the ammeter. What have I done wrong?

You didn't say where your loads are connected, but in general, sounds OK.

as long as laods are on the alternator side.. wireing is good

JMOR - Thanks for your reply. By loads, I"m assuming you mean lights and starter motor. The system is negative ground. Unfortunately, I"m too computer illiterate to be able to upload a wiring diagram. Electrical system works great - except the ammeter.

Soundguy - thanks for the reply. As far as I"m able to determine, loads are on the alternator side.

got a bat charger?

hook a bat charger up to it and a battery....
