after buying a new battery, looked at ammeter and still no movement. after lifting the hood, hmmmm no wires at all going there. looks like i need too add some 12 ga wire and hook it up. does one wire goto battery and one goto regulator? thanks, terry

Just doing some troubleshooting on my '45 2N and noticed that the ammeter "connection" is just a wire lying in a clip on the back of the meter. Induction? Not sure to what years this applies and someone knowlegable will likely clarify, but you may not need to do much more than re-route an existing wire.

Reason I ponder this is that I was showing a good charge, while my battery was continually going dead. Seems plausible that whomever "wired" this rats nest put the wire in the clip the wrong way and it's reading backward. Haven't thought that thru yet, but I'm rewiring tomorrow in any case.

If you switched from POSITIVE ground to NEGATIVE ground, as most do, when changing from 6v to 12v, then to get the loop-style ammeter to read correctly, the current must pass thru the loop in the opposite direction. The loop serves to transfer the magnetic field surrounding the wire to the needle movement inside the meter.
