Okay so I tried sparking my V/R and my ammeter still shows that when the tractor is running it is in the neg is it possible that the 2 wires are backwards on the back of the meter and it should be showing a charge? how can i test the alt gen to make sure its charging. it is a 48 front mount 6 v system thanks

Yes i have it as pos ground. and it is a brand new wiring harness so that was why i was asking about the leads being wrong on the meter. does anyone have a close up pic of the ammeter and the resistor below it

I have my wire, ran thru my old loop style ammeter backwards, but then I know that.

When it shows - it is charging.

When it shows + it is discharging.

I thought it quite proper for positive ground.

But then again, I know that....

Check the battery voltage before starting the tractor and then after it is running. If generator is charging you will have a higher voltage when the tractor is running. If voltage is lower or the same then your generator is not charging.

here is a pic of my wiring if anyone can make sense if i have it right

eople can only guess unless you tell us where the other end of each wire in your picture goes to/comes from.
