An old water pump, help please

I have an old water pump.
Yale and Townes Mfg.
My Dad got this off army surplus about 1955.
We used it for irrigation.
pulled it with a 52 Ford 8N that I still have.
Has not been used in over 50 years.
It is stuck.
I am taking it apart to free it up.
Anybody ever seen one like it?

Got one end off.
Pretty corroded, but it will pump water again

If it doesn't have any thing that ATF would mess up I'd use iton it. I've done that to other pumps my dad had

The interior parts are brass.

Never saw one like that. If the ATF doesn't do the trick, try some old vegetable oil (cooking oil). My brother that works in fire suppression systems, sprinklers, told me about that. Works surprisingly good on old valves and such, worth a try. Paul

Yale and Towne made a lot of industrial and military pumps, so army surplus makes sense. Soaking the stuck parts in a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone might help before you force anything.

Big flat pulley pump run with an old Ottawa dragsaw engine. The pump froze up, broke and went for scrap after the mill was sold. I do still have the engine though, I tried to get it running last year, had spark and gas but I was working under primitive conditions and didn't get it going.

Patience is the best tool.

It could help to back off the nuts on the packing gland and use a pick to carefully pull out the old packing rings so they can be re-used. Get some oil into the shaft from that end, and that might help ease things a bit. With the packing removed, it would also be safer to heat that area to help break things free if necessary.

If I am correct, that is a rotor type pump and will be very sensitive to rust inside the stator. The pump might have never been intended to pump plain water. If you can get the shaft to move at all, working it back and forth with oil in the cavity could be helpful. Removing the relief and discharge pipes could also permit better access to the rotor from both sides.

Well I got it apart with grunts, sweat, and patience and a 4 lb hammer and block of wood.
Soaked in ATF and PB blaster.
Does not look bad.
