Another 400 question

My 400 Super has an 800 motor which means the muffler exits through a hole in the hood that was cut in with a chisel. I am not kidding. My question is can I go to a salvage yard and get a 400 intake and exhaust manifold setup so the muffler is outside the hood? Or, are 800 head ports larger than a 400 manifold? Thanks, Don

Interesting, I have exactly the opposite problem with my 611B: a very pretty 3" hole with no apparent purpose, roughly above the distributor. I put a Caplug in it.

The manifold mountings are the same for the 400 diesels and the 700,800,730,830 diesels. Also the manifolds will fit the gasoline heads. We have a 400 COM that used to be an 800. It has all the Super 400 stuff plus the COM.

Probably was replaced at some point with one from a 300b diesel. The upright exhaust came through the hood on the right side.

800 hood is longer. There is a difference in the front tub between the 400 and an 700 ect. The hoods will not interchange without changing the tub. Actually you can put a spacer between the tub and the engine block, about 3/4 inch
