Another Carb Problem?

This summer my 8n developed an intermittent stumble/miss that would last about 5 seconds and clear up. It didn't matter if it was under load or not so I didn't pay much attention to it.

Last week while brush hoggin to finish the year the stumble became full time and would clear up when I applied about half choke.

My first thought was plugged screens so I drained the fuel system thru the carb plug and it took about 2 hours to drain 2 gallons, I saw crap percolating in the sediment bowl while draining so I thought I was on the right track. When it got empty I pulled the bowl off to find black goo where the gasket should be. No bits or pieces just goo. The sediment bowl screen was intact and had some particles on it but wasn't plugged and there was no screen in the elbow.

I figure I need to pull the carb apart and hose it down with carb cleaner and replace the elbow screen. Is there anything else I need to do and is there a better way to clean the carb? It says TSX 33 on the side.

You may get by with hosing it out with carb cleaner,
but I would disassemble the carb and soak it over
night in carb cleaner (I use Berrymans) Then I would
blow it out with compressed air and a rubber tipped
blow gun. You are going to need a new sediment bowl
gasket and a new elbow and screen also.
