Reminds me of a story a neighbor from our first place told me about the previous owner, who though well intended was known for not thinking things through.

The neighbor had lent John a heavy old rope block and tackle to use in the Quonset to hang a deer he had shot.

Consistent with how borrowing things out seem to work a few months had passed and the neighbor Jack needed the block and tackle for something he was working on.

He went up the road to see John about it, John apologized and told Jack he would get it down for him right now.

With no ladder around Jack was quite surprised to see John who was more than a little overweight shinny 12 feet up the rope to where it was hooked around a rafter.

Jack did not know if John's plan was to somehow lower himself down with the rope once he untied the knot or what he was going to do but I still recall Jacks exact words;

"I tell you, other than no Beep Beep sound it was just like watching a Road Runner cartoon".

He said John untied the last knot and instantly came down 12 feet with a big thud in the dirt then somehow got back up and walked away without a scratch on him.

guess ill tell one on myself. Back in highschool we had a piece of tin come loose on our old barn. Some me and the neighbor kid stuck an extension ladder in the bed of the truck and up I went with my little mikatia cordless drill to put in some screws. well the ladder was a lil short and instead of climbing down and raising it another notch we had the bright idea to have him pull the rope to raise the ladder with me on it. (I was like 125 pounds and he was a big boy) I pulled my self up as he pulled the rope and alls well until we realize it did not lock in the next rung but went into retract mode...fast. I came down in the truck bed and landed on my back and the drill hit him square on the head. Only injury was to our pride!

Years back I got a call from a landlord who had a problem tree. The utility line was close and they were concerned.
After a few measurements I tied the line back so the tree trimmer could proceed.
He balked, didn't want to climb up and cut the branch, so I put my ladder up and took a sawzall to it. Pretty soon that branch made a couple of good pops so I quit and climbed down.
I wanted a tie off just in case. I had the ladder strapped to the limb, it was about ten inches at that spot.
Well, I fastened a weight on my rope and gave it a toss. Dang thing hung up on the bark and wouldn't drop. Time for a do over so I started to pull the rope back. Dang branch dropped like it fell out of a plane.
I don't remember what type tree it was, but the branch had not begun to sag. It broke right off though. Power line was unscathed also.
I was concerned that it was going to be a wild ride, but what was left barely moved.
