another Power-trol 60 JD

I have a 1953 60 model. It has an 'add on' adapters hydraulics setup...T-ed into the side of the power-trol with remote hoses about a foot long. I bought the tractor and I don't know much about the 'add on' setup. My dad's old tractor had the old remote setup back in 1965. From what I have researched, it is pioneer quick connect. Anyway, the rock-shaft does not work. I have read that if it has a remote 'add on' which diverts the fluid somehow, the rock shaft will not work. Surely, they will not rotate when the level is operator. I tried putting a load on the shaft with a tool and nothing, but a much delayed shaft-rotation with nearly zero torque. I don't have any attachment with a remote for the pioneer so I cannot check it. What to do to make the rock-shaft work. Do I remove the 'add on' hoses from the power-trol and put plugs in the side or is there some other trick to make the system work?

Dummy plugs have to be inserted into the power trol to make the rockshaft operate if I remember correctly. Dave

Hello Dave,
thanks for your reply. I am having a time with this old 60-JD. when you say dummy plugs, are you speaking of the plugs that goes into the power-trol when the remote cylinder is not attached (I am talking 1965-1988...my father' old tractor)? if so, they are pluged in. if however, there is a different type of plug I am not sure what you are speaking of...sorry I just void of understanding.

That would be the Same way you would obtain hydraulics for a Loader on a "A, B 0r 60"..

The Plugs differ in two ways...:
The "Remote" Plugs are open on the outside end, for the hydraulic hose to connect, the "Dummy Plugs" are solid on the outside end..
Also, One set is OPEN on the INSIDE end..the other set is closed on the end..
I have always figured you could drill the closed "Inside end" and tap for a Brass Set-screw plug and use it as Both a "Remote" or "Dummy Plug"..
Last one I checked at JD for, they wanted $75.oo for a replacement Remote plug..!!

Ron..

Thanks BushhogPAPA,
after some research, I realize I have the right plugs in the trol for the rock shaft to work. I assume my problem is in the pump. I have tried everything else.
