Another PTO seal wanted

After replacing my leaky PTO seal with the TISCO seal common to every 8N parts site, the shaft now leaks slightly more than the old one. While I don't rule out the fault lies with me, I would like to have another version of the old seal I replaced (bottom photo, TISCO on top).

The old seal not only has the rubber lip, but also a fibrous ring (leather?). Is this the new type seal mentioned in some earlier posts? Does anyone know if this seal is available? CNH perhaps?

I had the same problem, I went to the Ford/New Holland place and got the OEM replacement, much better seal, has the extra component that you describe. I also made certain the surface the seal runs on was clean with some fine emery cloth. Leak stopped.

The rubber lip IS the oil seal, the leather is a dust seal, more important when these were hard-working FIELD tractors.

The modern lip seal SHOULD have held the oil in.

Sometimes, it's possible to install 2 thinner modern seals in place of the thicker old seal. Face one lip "in" and one lip "out" and put a little wheel bearing grease in the space between the lips.

Did you replace the sleeve on the shaft when you did the seal?

okie.......sometimes the modern PTO seal is too-thin and the lip rides in the old groove and does NOT seal. Just make a cardboard "spacer" from cheerios box (use new seal as a template and draw circles with ballpoint and cutter-way) and install it first. This will place the PTO seal lip on NEW un-worn surface and will therefore seal.

of course replacing the wear ring is the answer.. but yeah.. might be able to move the seal to a smooth spot.. and / or sand the ring to make it smooth. IMHO.. the new seals fit real tight and should seal real good. I've been getting mine from cnh and have put one on just about all my 00/01 series tractors as I rebuild the pto.. etc.
