got the 46 n back togeather today less the air cleaner, runs good smokes a little but not bad, started cleaning the air cleaner assembly, has anybody pulled 3 inches of solid goo out of the bottom of one of these, or do i now hold the record, i didnt know the bottom baffel came out because it was almost level full to the band with this stuff, no wonder it smokes, that plus the crankcase breather was stopped off solid too,, both stripped to the bare metal after being cleaned then primered and painted

I found my 950 air cleaner chok full of oily leaves.. probably 3 good handfulls... took forever to get leaf chunks out of the media...

You would not believe some of the stuff I have found in air cleaners. I have found dropping for mice/rats and even at one time found a pair of woman's pantry's in one plus even a tool or to like a socket

In the right setting[really dusty, etc.],it doesn't take an awful long time to accumulate a lot of gunk in a cleaner.I clean the screen at the top of mine and check the cup at the same time.If it's dirty,I clean and fill it with oil.---lha

Kinda funny. My dad was very good about taking care of his equipment. He had an R JD that he had a neighbor guy helping him out by doing some plowing.....20 plus year old sod. Tractor was smoking bad. When dad got to trouble shooting he found that the air intake stack had built up dirt through the years and was only about 1/2 open. The oil bath air cleaner was clean.....just the intake was plugged. He had an AC CA too. I was pretty mad when mom sold it while I was still in the Army. I was planning on returning to the farm at retirement (as I did) and figured it would be a good chore tractor. Now that I own an 8N I'm kinda glad that she sold it. I think the N is a better tractor by a long shot! Plus the "Ferguson System" 3 point is a better, safer design than the "Snap Coupler" AC system.

I cleaned only a quarter inch of mud from the bottom of the oil bath air cleaner on my 1950 8n, wiped it all nice and clean, put in fresh 30w oil, and had it run all over the floor. The mud was covering up several pin holes that had rusted through the bottom. So far the JB weld is holding nicely.

When I bought my 53, I cleaned the oil cup - it had 3" of sludge in it too, cleaned it so good that I put a small hole in it! Thank goodness for epoxy ! Well at least the cleaner is doing a good job !

When I bought my 52 8n the air filter was packed full of grass clipings. I was supprised that could get enough air to run
